\nThe Boston Breakers netted six new players – five draft selections and the acquisition of Boston College product Stephanie McCaffery – at Friday’s NWSL College Draft in Philadelphia.<\/p>\n

Amid a busy morning, the Breakers added McCaffery, who also played for the Breakers College Academy side last summer, after sending the ninth and 11th overall picks to the Chicago Red Stars, who had just selected the former Eagle with the fifth pick.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m very pleased about Stephanie,\u201d Breakers coach Tom Durkin said in a club release on Friday. \u201cShe was a pleasure to have in with us last summer. She did extremely well, so we knew she would be a good fit.\u201d<\/p>\n

Two-time Hermann Trophy winner Morgan Brian (Virginia) was selected first overall by the Houston Dash.<\/p>\n

After the McCaffery trade, the Breakers selected Florida State forward Jamia Fields (second round – 14th overall), James Madison University defender Samantha Lofton (third round – 20th overall), Texas A&M forward Bianca Brinson (third round – 24th overall), Seattle University forward Stephanie Verdoia (fourth round – 29th overall) and Northeastern University defender Bianca Calderone (fourth round – 33rd overall).<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m very pleased with our draft. We added a variety of positions, winning players, and depth options,\u201d Boston Breakers general manager Lee Billiard said in a club release on Friday. \u201cI\u2019m really looking forward to seeing these girls during preseason.\u201d<\/p>\n

Preseason camp will commence in early-March before the Breakers kick off the 2015 regular season on Apr. 11 at Portland. They will host their first match at Harvard Stadium on Apr. 26 against the Houston Dash on Apr. 26.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
