After a nagging calf knock kept him from seeing the pitch during First Kick, Revolution striker Charlie Davies deemed himself ready to go for Sunday\u2019s match at Yankee Stadium.<\/p>\n

Davies, who made the gameday roster for last week’s match at CenturyLink Field, said that with another week to let the injury heal, he\u2019s anxious to contribute if his number is called against New York City FC.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was actually a great thing that I didn\u2019t have to rush it this past weekend in Seattle,\u201d Davis told nesoccertoday.com<\/em>. \u201cI was able to take that time to really get it back to 100 percent.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last year\u2019s postseason hero said he could have tried to give it a go last week had the Sounders not already taken a three-goal lead before the 70th minute.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think I was really ever going to play,\u201d Davies said, \u201cunless the game needed for me to go into it, as far as it being close, or if it was tied, or we were down a goal, and coming in late to contribute.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Revolution sure could have used Davies last week. Despite showing some promise out of the gate, the guests were held to only one shot on go. And from Davies\u2019 view, it was easy to see why.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere were plenty of times where Chris Tierney was alone (on the wing), and we couldn\u2019t find him, or we took too long to find him,\u201d Davies said. \u201cSeattle didn\u2019t really have to change their defensive patterns as far as switching the field, and having to have them adjust to the way we play.\u201d<\/p>\n

Granted, not having the likes of Davies, Lee Nguyen and Jermaine Jones on the pitch didn\u2019t help the Revolution\u2019s quest last weekend. But with Teal Bunbury hurt, Heaps may be forced to slid Agudelo out wide to fill the void, and allowing a healthy Davies the chance to reclaim his spot up top.<\/p>\n

\u201cI got a whole week under my belt of full training, and I\u2019ll be ready to go for New York,\u201d Davies said. \u201cI\u2019m obviously excited: it\u2019ll be my first game of the season, and it\u2019ll be nice to get back to playing the way we know how to play. I\u2019m looking forward to helping this team get that first victory of the season.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
