After a three-year absence, organized soccer will return to Central Massachusetts as the ASL has announced that Worcester FC will join the league as an expansion team for the 2015-16 season.<\/p>\n

The club, which is headed by former Greater Lowell United FC founder Tim Melican, will kick off its inaugural season in August.<\/p>\n

“This isn\u2019t a casual summer soccer club,” read a release on the club’s official website<\/a>. “This is the professional game brought to fans in Worcester and beyond by a club that emphasizes excellence, camaraderie and a commitment to the community.”<\/p>\n

Days prior to the announcement, the club released its official crest, which features a portrait of an angry tiger. The club’s official colors are orange and black.<\/p>\n

Worcester FC is the first fourth-tier side to represent the city since the Worcester Hydra fielded a team for the 2012 PDL season. But the Hydra only lasted one season. They played their games at Commerce Bank Field.<\/p>\n

Friday’s announcement did not detail where Worcester FC will play its home games.<\/p>\n
