The magic has ended for the Charlotte Independence in their quest for further\u00a0U.S. Open Cup glory.<\/p>\n

Less than two weeks after eliminating the Revolution in the fourth round of the tournament, the USL side fell 3-1 to the Chicago Fire in Tuesday’s Round of 16 match at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, Ill.<\/p>\n

Despite getting an early goal from\u00a0Tomasz Zahorski\u00a0in the sixth minute, the Fire replied with a trio of goals from Mike Magee (38th minute), Lovel Palmer (50th minute) and Patrick Nyarko (82nd minute).<\/p>\n

The loss put an end to a dramatic tournament run by the upstart USL side that also included a third round upset of the NASL’s Carolina RailHawks.<\/p>\n

Former Revolution players Bilal Duckett and Paolo DelPiccolo both started for the Independence.<\/p>\n

The Fire will play Orlando City SC in the\u00a0tournament\u00a0quarterfinals on either\u00a0Jul. 21 or 22.<\/p>\n
