Will 2015 be the final year in Foxboro for Revolution captain Jose Goncalves? <\/p>\n

In a Mar. 2015 interview with a Swiss soccer news outlet, which Goncalves tweeted out on Thursday, the Revolution center back said that he’s looking to return to Switzerland, where he spent the bulk of his professional career, “within a year.”<\/p>\n

“I always said that I would return to Switzerland, I think within a year,” Goncalves told\u00a0Swiss Made Football,<\/em>\u00a0according to\u00a0an internet\u00a0translation service. “We’ll see\u00a0how it\u00a0happens this year, but I didn’t want to spend more than three years in the United States.”<\/span><\/p>\n

The 29-year-old captain\u00a0is in his third year with the Revolution, whom he\u00a0originally\u00a0joined\u00a0prior to the start of the\u00a02013\u00a0MLS campaign via loan from Swiss side FC Sion. The Revolution opted to purchase the Portuguese International’s contract following\u00a0a successful\u00a0debut season\u00a0in which he earned MLS Defender of the Year honors.<\/p>\n

Goncalves cited the desire to settle down and become a family man as the reason for his decision to return to Switzerland, where he grew up after he was born in Portugal.<\/p>\n

“I do not regret anything, (MLS) is a\u00a0great\u00a0(league) and it works,” Goncalves said.\u00a0“But it is clear that now I’m getting\u00a0to a certain age where I want to\u00a0start a family, and be closer to home.”<\/p>\n

In the interview, Goncalves also described the challenge that many foreign players face when they play in MLS.<\/p>\n

“It is a different lifestyle with long trips,” Goncalves said.\u00a0“It shouldn’t be the desire to make all these trips that are painful in the long run. The fatigue. It is a different style of life than in Switzerland.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
