On Saturday, former Rhode Island Reds and East Providence Sports forward Armando Gomes was killed in a car accident in Providence, R.I<\/a>. He was 26. Gomes played at the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI)\u00a0before starring for the Reds and E.P. Sports, and was a fixture in the Rhode Island soccer scene.<\/p>\n

In the wake of the news, many within the\u00a0state’s soccer community took to social media to express their\u00a0grief to Gomes’ untimely death.<\/p>\n

Rhode Island Reds FC:<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Rhode Island Reds family has suffered a very tragic loss today. RI Reds forward, Armando Gomes, was involved in a fatal car accident earlier this morning. Armando was an emotional leader of the Reds and always performed at the top of his game. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and loved ones.<\/em><\/p>\n

Armando Gomes will always be apart of the Rhode Island Reds and we will always remember him.<\/em><\/p>\n

East Providence Sports:<\/strong><\/p>\n

It is with a heavy heart that I must share the sad news of the passing of a great man.<\/em><\/p>\n

Dunga ” Armondo” Gomes is no longer with us, though his legacy will live on and off the field for ages.<\/em><\/p>\n

The LUSA family is grieving. According to news reports, former LUSA great Armando Gomes passed away last night as a result of a tragic car accident. Armando was one of LUSA\u2019s top players who scored many goals, while representing East Providence.<\/em>
\n LUSA would like to extend our deepest condolences to his Family. RIP Armando Dunga Gomes.<\/em><\/p>\n
