Ten years ago this week, Hurricane Katrina slammed into New Orleans, leaving in its wake over 1,800 deaths, nearly $110 billion in damage, and displacing over a million people.<\/p>\n

Among those impacted by one of the most destructive hurricanes in U.S. history was former Revolution first round pick Patrick Mullins, who now plays for New York City FC. Mullins, who was born and raised in New Orleans, recently told MLSSoccer.com<\/em> about how the hurricane essentially took everything that belonged to his family.<\/p>\n

“Katrina, if there were any lessons, one was that the family made the house into a home,” Mullins told mlssoccer.com<\/em>. “It wasn’t the house, it wasn’t the lot that was home: it was the people. I think that was really the big thing to me, whether it was the people that made up the soccer field, or the people that made up the home, that’s what I remembered and that’s what I cared about.” <\/p>\n
