FOXBOROUGH, Mass. \u2013 Revolution defender Darrius Barnes, who underwent knee surgery in April, was spotted on the training ground during Wednesday\u2019s session as he works his way back to action.<\/p>\n

The versatile veteran joined the training session just before the media portion wrapped up. He wore a sleeveless training top, shorts and boots, indicating he was likely preparing to work off to the side with the team\u2019s medical staff.<\/p>\n

The timetable for Barnes\u2019 recovery was originally pegged at six months, with a possible return in October. However, given the abundance of caution often given to players returning from knee injuries, Barnes may not be ready to hit full throttle until the 2016 preseason.<\/p>\n

Training notes:<\/p>\n

-Among those who spoke to the media prior to Wednesday\u2019s training were coach Jay Heaps, goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth, midfielder Jermaine Jones, and defenders Andrew Farrell and Chris Tierney.<\/p>\n

-Shuttleworth spoke at length about his new contract extension, which he signed on Monday. He specifically expressed gratitude to the organization\u2019s faith in him given that he joined the Revolution as a third-string keeper in 2009: \u201cI\u2019m excited that they put the faith in me going forward, and obviously grateful to them for allowing me to develop,\u201d Shuttleworth said. \u201cI\u2019ve been here for a long time, and it\u2019s really the only club I\u2019ve been at, so I\u2019m pretty settled here.\u201d<\/p>\n

-According to Heaps, the re-signing of Shuttleworth wasn\u2019t just important because it brings stability between the sticks going forward. \u201cWe\u2019re at the next phase where Bobby has another level, and I think when you see someone that can continue to get better after being a professional, well that\u2019s when you realize that this player has higher levels to hit.\u201d<\/p>\n

-Jones, who signed with the club one year ago this past Monday, touched upon his first 365 days with the organization, as well as the future. \u201cMy family was here to visit to see how Boston is, and my family likes it too, but it\u2019s not always how much you like it. So we\u2019ll have to sit down and discuss other stuff, too. If we (agree), then I\u2019ll be happy to stay, but if not, then I\u2019ll have no problem moving on.\u201d<\/p>\n
