There’ll be a new kid on the local NPSL block after the league announced that Boston City FC will begin play as an expansion side in 2016.<\/p>\n

The club is led by a quartet of local businessmen that includes CEO Renato Valentim, President Jorge Silva, Executive Vice President Cesar Piovezanni, and Vice President of Business Development Lelio Ravagnani.<\/p>\n

\u201cBoston City FC decided that the NPSL was the best choice for the organization\u2019s vision,\u201d Valentim said in press release. \u201cWe value the NPSL\u2019s organizational structure, its plans to expand, the number of teams in the league, the way the conferences are divided, and their national reach.” <\/p>\n

The club will compete in the Northeast Region\u2019s North Atlantic Conference, which also includes Greater Lowell United FC, Rhode Island Reds, Seacoast United Phantoms, and Seacoast United Mariners. The conference also includes the 2015 NPSL champion New York Cosmos B.<\/p>\n

According to the club’s website, the upstart side has played a series of exhibitions earlier this year in Brazil, where Silva – who played under the name of Palhinha as a member of S\u00e3o Paulo – established himself as one of the best attacking midfielders in the Campeonato Brasileiro. <\/p>\n

It is unclear where the club will play its home matches. Veterans Stadium in Quincy previously served as home to PDL side Real Boston Rams, as well as former PDL side Boston Victory.<\/p>\n

While the club works out that important detail, Valentim expressed enthusiasm at the prospect of a prosperous launch.<\/p>\n
