For the second time in three days, the Revolution joined a majority of MLS clubs that opted not to make any moves during one of the league’s player acquisition mechanisms as Friday’s Stage 1 of the Re-Entry Draft came and went with only two names selected.<\/p>\n
The Revolution, which held the 10th slot in Friday’s Draft, were one of 18 clubs that declined to make a selection. FC Dallas traded up to acquire the first pick from Chicago, and used it to select former Portland forward Maxi Urruti. Sporting Kansas City, which held the 11th slot, selected former Chicago keeper Alec Kann.<\/p>\n
Three members of the 2015 Revolution squad were available for selection during Friday’s proceedings: defenders Kevin Alston and Jeremy Hall (options declined), as well as midfielder Andy Dorman (out of contract).<\/p>\n
Former Revolution left back Seth Sinovic, who\u00a0was originally available when the list of eligible players was released on Tuesday, was re-signed by Sporting Kansas City prior to\u00a0Friday’s draft.<\/p>\n
Traditionally, there is little movement during the first stage of the Re-Entry Draft, as many clubs often look ahead to Stage 2, a forum which packs the better bargain. Players who are selected in Stage 2 must be given\u00a0a\u00a0“genuine offer” within seven days, whereas those selected in Stage 1 must have their next option year\u00a0exercised, or must be extended a “bona fide offer.”<\/p>\n
A player may choose to opt out of the Re-Entry Process prior to Stage 2\u00a0of the draft. In such instances, the right of first refusal for the player will remain with his previous club.<\/p>\n
Stage 2 is set for Dec. 17 at 3:00pm ET. Any player who remains unselected during Stage 2 is available to\u00a0any MLS club on a first come, first serve basis.<\/p>\n
