After the first 14 months of their partnership with Sporting CP failed to bear fruit, it appears that the Revolution may finally be preparing to hand pick a player or two from the Portuguese outfit.<\/p>\n

On Friday, Revolution general manager Michael Burns told O Jornal<\/em><\/a> that he’s hoping to bring in some players from Sporting in 2016.<\/p>\n

“We\u2019re in discussion with Sporting about those possibilities right now,” Burns told O Jornal<\/em>. “We\u2019re hopeful that we\u2019ll be able to get a player or two wearing a Revs uniform next year or beyond that\u2019s coming from Sporting. I think that\u2019ll be great for the partnership.”<\/p>\n

However, Burns indicated that a signing or loan deal with a Sporting product isn’t necessarily imminent.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t want to get too far ahead of ourselves, because there\u2019s nothing done officially yet with any player,\u201d Burns said. \u201cSo it\u2019s just kind of in the discussion stage right now that we were able to go over there, and spend some time with some of their board members and technical staff, so the discussions are on-going.\u201d<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, Burns accompanied Revolution assistant coach Tom Soehn to meet with Sporting’s brass to discuss a potential move.<\/p>\n

According to a source, the Revolution were interested in winger Heldon Ramos, who was subsequently loaned to La Liga side Cordoba.<\/p>\n

In the meantime, the Revolution currently have a trio of players – midfielders Zachary Herivaux and Donnie Smith, as well as forward Sean Okoli – in Portugal training with the Leoes. They are expected to remain with the club until the end of the week.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis was a Revolution decision, obviously with Sporting\u2019s blessing,\u201d Burns said. \u201cThe three players we sent there didn\u2019t have a lot of first team minutes for us this year, but they\u2019re guys that we\u2019re bullish on going forward.
