The Breakers’ offseason roster renovations continued on Thursday with the signing Swedish midfielder Louise Schillgard. The terms of the deal were not disclosed, per team\/league policy.<\/p>\n
Schillgard, 26, joins the Breakers following a loan spell with \u00c4lta Sweden\u2019s Elitettan in 2014. She also has experience playing under head coach Matt Beard for Liverpool, tallying nine goals in 14 matches for the Reds. <\/p>\n
“Louise is one of the best players I have ever worked with. She has a great soccer brain, she’s a dead ball specialist, and she can score and create goals,\u201d Beard said in a club release. \u201cI’m delighted we have managed to bring someone of Louise’s quality to Boston. The way she is as a player I’m confident she will be a hit in the NWSL.\u201d<\/p>\n
The 5-foot-7 Stockholm native has also made stops in Australia\u2019s W-League for the Western Sydney Wanderers in 2013, Spain\u2019s Primera Divison for RCD Espanyol, and played for three teams in Sweden\u2019s Damallsvenskan (Hammarby, Link\u00f6ping and AIK).<\/p>\n
Internationally, Schillgard has made 24 appearances for Sweden, competing on the national stage in the 2011 UEFA World Cup Qualifying tournament, as well as in the 2009 European Championship.
