It appears the news of the Rhode Island Oceaneers’ demise<\/a> were greatly exaggerated.<\/p>\n

Two weeks after the club issued a press release advising that it would not field a team for the ASL’s upcoming season, a league source told NESoccerToday.com<\/em> that the club will, in fact, compete in 2016, but under a new identity: New England FC.<\/p>\n

The Oceaneers did not immediately respond to NESoccerToday.com<\/em>‘s request for comment on the situation.<\/p>\n

According to the source, who also provided the club’s new crest, the team will play its home matches in Revere, Mass. at Della Russo Stadium. The stadium will also serve as the home grounds to fellow ASL side Mass United FC.<\/p>\n

With the re-christened club set to begin its second season in ASL, the league will have four representatives from New England, including Mass United, New Hampshire Bobcats, and Connecticut United FC.<\/p>\n

An official announcement regarding the Oceaneers\/New England FC rebrand is expected to be made by the league by the end of the week.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
