WESTWOOD, Mass. – WPS All-Stars Kelly Smith, Alex Scott, and\u00a0Leslie Osborne\u00a0are among 14 players returning to Boston for the 2011 WPS season, which kicks off on April 9th between the Breakers and Atlanta Beat in Kennesaw, GA.<\/p>\n
The Breakers, who started the offseason earlier this month,\u00a0currently have\u00a023 players on their roster. WPS allows a maximum of 24 rostered players per club.<\/p>\n
Perhaps the most\u00a0glaring aspect of the 23-player list is the absence of WPS legend Kristine Lilly, who retired during the offseason. In fact,the 2011 season will mark the first time in team history that Lilly, who played for the Breakers during the WUSA and WPS eras,\u00a0will not be on the roster. Her number 13 will be retired during\u00a0halftime of the Breakers’\u00a0May 22nd match against the Philadelphia Independence.<\/p>\n
