Seattle Reign striker Manon Melis opened up an early lead and her squad never looked back as they sent the Boston Breakers to a 3-0 loss during Sunday’s home opener Jordan Field in Cambridge, Mass. <\/p>\n

Melis scored inside of 10 minutes after converting a Kim Little pass. Little set up Seattle’s second strike in the 39th minute when she sent a pass to Rachel Corsie. After assisting on the first two goals, Little capped the scoring in the 79th minute.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s frustrating because the first two goals were definitely preventable,” Breakers coach Matt Beard said in a club release. “One was off a throw-in, and the second of course was a set play.”<\/p>\n

With the loss, the Breakers (0-2-0, 0 points) were kept out of the win column for the second straight match while the Reign (1-1-0, 3 points) collected their first win of the season. The locals have yet to find the back of the net through their first two games. <\/p>\n

Boston outshot their guests 11-10, but was unable to sneak one by Reign keeper Hope Solo, who collected three saves on the evening. <\/p>\n

Their best opportunity for a breakthrough came in the 53rd minute when Kyah Simon played it for Kristie Mewis, who went 1v1 on Solo only to have her shot denied by the U.S. goalkeeper.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think anyone watching the game tonight would say 3-nil was a harsh reflection on us,” Beard said. “But if you don\u2019t take your chances then you\u2019re always liable to let one in.”<\/p>\n

The Breakers return to action on May 1 when they host Portland Thorns FC at Jordan Field at 5pm.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
