The Breakers’ season-long struggles hit a new low on Friday in Rochester, N.Y. where the locals were obliterated by the Western New York Flash in a 7-1 defeat at Rhinos Stadium.<\/p>\n

Jess McDonald collected a hat trick with goals in the 28th, 43rd and 59th minutes while Lynn Williams bagged a brace with strikes in the 19th and 49th minutes. Makenzy Doniak and Taylor Smith each tallied in the 45+2 and 63rd minutes, respectively, before the hosts eased off the gas in the latter stages. <\/p>\n

Rookie Christen Westphal’s first professional goal in the 38th minute was the lone measure of success for the guests on an otherwise humiliating evening.<\/p>\n

Boston was outshot 18-7, and conceded five unanswered goals following Westphal’s strike. To date, the Breakers have scored only three goals in 10 games this year. <\/p>\n

Former Breakers midfielder McCall Zerboni, who was traded to the Flash earlier this month, went the full 90, and was issued a 60th minute caution.<\/p>\n

The loss sank the last-place Breakers to 1-8-1 (4 points). Following Friday’s loss, the squad’s goal differential plummetted to negative-22. Western New York’s victory improved their mark to 6-4-0 (18 points), good for third place on the table.<\/p>\n

The Breakers will remain on the road next week for a Jul. 2 contest against Seattle Reign at Memorial Stadium in Seattle, Wash. In their first meeting of the season, the Reign handed the Breakers a 3-0 home defeat on Apr. 24. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
