FOXBOROUGH, Mass. \u2013 Frank Lampard\u2019s second half strike sent the struggling New England Revolution to their third straight loss as first-place New York City FC picked up a 1-0 win on Wednesday at Gillette Stadium.<\/p>\n

The Chelsea legend unlocked a scoreless draw in the 58th minute when he put his knee into a cross from Tommy McNamara, and beat Bobby Shuttleworth. <\/p>\n

Shuttleworth, who earned his first league start since May 28, was later red carded for fouling Khiry Shelton on a breakaway in the 92nd minute. With the Revolution out of substitutes, Jose Goncalves was called upon to strap on the goalie gloves for the final moments.<\/p>\n

New England\u2019s best bid at an equalizer came in the 73rd minute when Femi Hollinger-Janzen nearly connected on a dangerous cross from Chris Tierney. Hollinger-Janzen got a second crack at the equalizer ten minutes later on another Tierney ball, but wasn\u2019t able to glance it through.<\/p>\n

One last chance level it arrived in the shadow of full time. With the Revolution committing numbers forward, Diego Fagundez was fouled by Andoni Iraolain front of the box in the 89th minute to set up a Lee Nguyen free kick. But the midfielder\u2019s chip ahead to Kei Kamara carried too high for the striker to steer it on frame.<\/p>\n

With the loss, the Revolution dropped to 4-7-7 (19 points) while New York City won their fourth straight and improved to 8-5-6 (30 points).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
