In a televised rant about the recent setbacks suffered by the United States Men’s National Team, Alexi Lalas called out a number of the squad’s stars, including Attleboro, Mass. native Geoff Cameron.<\/p>\n

During Sunday night’s broadcast of the Seattle Sounders-LA Galaxy game on Fox Sports 1, Lalas ripped into individual players, including Cameron and former Revolution midfielder Clint Dempsey, and admonished the team as a group, calling them “soft, underperforming tattooed millionaires<\/a>.”<\/p>\n

“Geoff Cameron. Clean it up, or let’s get someone who will,” Lalas said.<\/p>\n

Cameron was one of many National Team stars who felt the wrath of the outspoken Lalas, who also played for the Revolution during the inaugural season of MLS.<\/p>\n

“It’s dark days, indeed, but this is a time for leaders to step up,” Lalas said. “And so to the supposed leaders, I will say this….Tim Howard. Tim, the Belgium game ended three years ago. We need you to save the ball now.”<\/p>\n

“Clint Dempsey. Yeah, you’re a national team legend; now we need you to be a national team leader.”<\/p>\n

“Michael Bradley. The U.S. does not need you to be zen, the U.S. needs you to play better. Jozy Altidore. Is this really as good as it gets? Because it’s still not good enough.”<\/p>\n

The U.S. recently suffered a deflating defeat to Costa Rica on home soil, their first such loss to the Ticos since 1985. Four days later, they needed an 85th minute equalizer to get a 1-1 draw at Honduras.<\/p>\n

Despite their recent woes, the U.S. still controls its own World Cup destiny, currently sitting fourth in CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying, which wraps up next month.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
