FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Kei Kamara’s late goal allowed the Tom Soehn Era to start on a positive note following Saturday’s 2-1 win over Toronto FC at Gillette Stadium.<\/p>\n
Soehn, who served assistant prior to the dismissal of former coach Jay Heaps on Tuesday, made his first appearance as head coach in a match that seemed destined to end scoreless.<\/p>\n
That was before Lee Nguyen tallied in the 82nd minute to give the Revolution a brief lead before Nicolas Hasler equalized in the 84th minute. But Kei Kamara’s 87th minute goal proved the difference as the hosts held on for the victory.<\/p>\n
With the result, the Revolution’s ledger goes to 11-14-5 (38 points) while Toronto’s mark went to 18-5-8 (62 points).<\/p>\n
Toronto was without Sebastian Giovinco and Jozy Altidore, who both missed the match due to injuries. But that didn’t stop the Reds from testing the Revolution early.<\/p>\n
Jonathan Osario and Tosaint Ricketts both exploited breaches early, and in the 23rd minute, Ricketts appeared to score the breakthrough. But the goal was nullified by the AR’s flag.<\/p>\n
In the 35th minute, Bunbury pounced on a lazy back pass and fired a shot on goal that was denied by Clint Irwin, who immediately stopped another shot seconds later from Gershon Koffie.<\/p>\n
Diego Fagundez authored a pair of promising chances during initial stages of the second half, his best arriving in the 57th minute when he beat his defender and drilled a low shot that veered wide of the far post.<\/p>\n
Nguyen’s 65th minute introduction pointed the Revolution offense in the right direction, and in the waning stages, he got on the end of a Chris Tierney cross to score the breakthrough.<\/p>\n
But Nguyen’s goal didn’t stand for long. Two minutes later, Hasler knocked through a Michael Bradley ball to make it a level match.<\/p>\n
Just when it seemed the match was going to end tied at one apiece, Kamara glanced a short cross from Nguyen into the back of the net in the 87th minute.<\/p>\n
The Revolution return to action on Wednesday at Orlando City. Kickoff is 7:30pm. In their previous encounter, the Revolution handed the Lions a 4-0 loss at Gillette Stadium.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
