The New England Revolution, who\u00a0have played with a short\u00a0roster since waiving midfielder Joseph Niouky back on August 10th, failed to fill the vacancy before yesterday’s 5 p.m. roster deadline freeze.<\/p>\n

The club, which\u00a0has carried\u00a023 players- one short of the league limit – for over a month, had invited a handful of trialists to training late in the summer in the hopes of filling the\u00a0open spot. However, none of the trialists latched on, as the club continued to search for a replacement.<\/p>\n

Given the litany of injuries the club has\u00a0sustained – including the loss of Taylor Twellman for the entire season – it is somewhat surprising that the organization\u00a0decided not to make a move to shore up\u00a0the roster. It’s even more\u00a0curious in light of the fact\u00a0that manager Steve Nicol has played with a short bench for prolonged periods this season.<\/p>\n

With the Revolution unlikely to reach the postseason for the first time in the Steve Nicol era, the Revolution will be forced to close out\u00a0an underwhelming\u00a0season undermanned.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
