After\u00a0passing\u00a0up on a goalscorer\u00a0during last week’s SuperDraft, the\u00a0Revolution selected\u00a0a pair\u00a0of\u00a0forwards, along with a midfielder and defender,\u00a0during Tuesday’s Supplemental Draft, which was held via conference call.<\/p>\n
Foward\/midfielder Dawyne Smith (Bethel University), midfielder Alec Purdie (Indiana), defender Kevin Garcia (Villanova) and forward Mike Roach (St. Louis) all had their names called by the Revolution on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Smith was taken 3rd overall after scoring 46 goals and\u00a0chipping in\u00a039 assists in 77 career games with the Wildcats. The\u00a0Kinston,\u00a0Jamaica native\u00a0was named\u00a0to the 2011\u00a0NAIA Men’s Soccer All-America third team and\u00a0was also named\u00a0an NAIA Scholar Athlete in 2011.<\/p>\n
Purdie, taken in the second round\u00a0(22nd overall), scored eight goals and collected five assists for the Hoosiers in 2011. He was invited to the 2012 MLS Combine earlier this month. The 5-10, 165lbs. midfielder started all 22 of Indiana’s games in 2011.<\/p>\n
Garcia was taken in the third round (41st overall) and was part of a defensive unit that set a school record by posting nine shutouts on the season. During his Wildcat career, the 6-2, 186 lbs. defender scored six goals in 73 starts.<\/p>\n
Roach, a 6-0, 165 lbs. striker who was taken in the fourth round (60th overall), has battled injuries\u00a0during parts of his\u00a0collegiate career but managed to\u00a0notch two goals and rack up four assists in 11 games\u00a0for the Billikens in 2011. He was the school’s leading scorer in 2009 after scoring 11 goals and adding two assists, but was sidelined for much of 2010 and a part of 2011.<\/p>\n
All four are expected to join the team in the coming days. The Revolution travel to Casa Grande, Ariz. on Jan. 21 and will remain there for training and intra-squad\u00a0scrimmages through Jan. 30.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
