Revs add Brettschneider, Purdie and Roach

A day after releasing Zach Schilawski and Ryan Kinne, the New England Revolution has added three young forwards to bolster their offensive corps. Former D.C. United striker Blake Brettschneider and Revs 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft selections, Alec Purdie and Michael Roach, both midfielders/forward, have signed contracts for the 2012 season.

“Blake, Alec and Mike are all talented, young players who we believe will provide us depth and help push our team every day in training,” General Manager Michael Burns said in a statement. “All three had good preseasons with us and earned their spots on our squad.”

Brettschneider, 22, has been on trial with the Revs since February 13. The second-year striker played 15 games, including nine starts, for United in 2011, scoring one goal and adding an assist. The 6-foot-0 striker was originally drafted by D.C. in the second round (21st overall) of the 2011 MLS Supplemental Draft.

The Lilburn, Ga. native also scored three goals for the D.C. United Reserves in 2011. Prior to joining MLS, Brettschneider had 19 goals and 17 assists in 75 games for the University of South Carolina.

Purdie, 23, was drafted by the Revs in the second round (22nd overall) of the 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft. The 5-foot-10 striker scored 12 goals and added 10 assists in 63 games over four years for Indiana University.

Roach, 23, was drafted by the Revs in the fourth round (60th overall) of the 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft. Roach played one year for Indiana University before playing three years with Saint Louis University, where he tallied 14 goals and seven assists.

All three were immediately added to the Revs roster and will be available for selection when the Revs kick off the season in San Jose on Saturday against the Earthquakes at 10:30 P.M. ET.
