GPS Omens captured their second straight Bay State Soccer League (BSSL) title on Tuesday as a result of a 3-1 win over Southie FC at Hunt Playground in Reading, Mass.
After Southie jumped out to an early lead inside of five minutes, Omens stormed back just before the hour. In the 55th minute, Eric Anderson converted a Jake Edwards pass while Anderson played the role of architect on Harris Smriko’s 65th minute tally. Scott Prozeller sent in a cross that deflected off a Southie defender for an own goal in the 75th minute.
With the victory, Omens improved to 44 points with one match remaining in the regular season. They also own an astonishing plus-54 goal differential, with Keith Caldwell collecting a league-best 16 strikes.
Omens is the second straight club to repeat as BSSL champions after GPM FC (formerly First Wave) claimed consecutive titles in 2014 and 2015.
Omens will close out their league schedule on Saturday against Oneida FC before gearing up for a McKenzie Cup semifinal clash against GPM FC.
