The Morning After: Revolution vs. D.C. United

It wasn’t supposed to be this difficult, but the Revolution overcame an own goal and a missed penalty to secure a 2-1 comeback win over D.C. United on Saturday.

Here some stats, facts and goodies from Saturday’s match at Gillette Stadium.

-With the win, the Revolution increased their chances of making the postseason from 42.9 percent to 50.6 percent. (sportsclubstats.com/mls)

-Among Revolution starters, Saer Sene was the most consistent passer, thanks to an 88 percent success rate. Not far behind was Scott Caldwell (86 percent) and Chris Tierney (83 percent).

-A week after conceding 23 total shots to the Fire, the Revolution racked up 22 against D.C. on Saturday night.

-Diego Fagundez netted his 11th goal of the season, equaling Saer Sene’s team-leading total from 2012.

-D.C.’s most consistent passers were Dejan Jakovic (83 percent), Dwayne DeRosario (81 percent) and Perry Kitchen (80 percent). As a team, they managed to connect on only 68% of their passes, well below the league median of 77 percent.

-How much space did D.C. concede in the second half? Well, enough to allow the Revolution to collect 11 corner kicks in the final 45.

-For the second straight Revolution home game, two penalties were awarded to the same team inside one half.

-Some things never change: Dimitry Imbongo’s three fouls created led the Revolution in that department.

-The season-high 19,187 on hand for Saturday’s game edged out the 19,120 that showed up for the Revolution’s 5-0 win over the Galaxy on June 2.

For us, we needed to win a game where we didn’t start well and the game was kind of against us in terms of just the way the own goal and just their second balls.
