The Revolution’s quest for a postseason clincher may be ongoing, but their USL affiliate is on the verge of a league title.

The Rochester Rhinos booked their ticket to the USL title game on Saturday after beating Louisville City FC 1-0 in the Eastern Conference championship game at Sahlen’s Stadium in Rochester, N.Y.

Rhinos defender Vassilios Apostolopoulos scored the decider on a set piece in the 21st minute while he and the rest of the Rochester defense – which allowed a league-low 15 goals this year – did the rest to preserve the scoreline.

One of the Rhinos’ best offensive threats – forward Steevan do Santos – was sent off in the 80th minute, leaving his squad shorthanded in the waning stages.

The Rhinos, who finished the season with a USL-best 61 points thanks to a 17-1-10 record, will host the winner of Sunday’s Western Conference championship clash between LA Galaxy II and OKC Energy. The USL title game is set for 7:30pm on Friday at Sahlen’s Stadium.

Rochester received Revolution midfielders Tyler Rudy and Timi Mulgrew on loan in April. Rudy played in 14 games and collected two assists before his season was cut short due to an ankle injury. Mulgrew saw action in 15 games.
