CFC Azul Add Midfielder Covino

CFC Azul added former Western Mass Pioneers midfielder Steve Covino to its roster, the New Haven-based team announced on Monday.
Covino played with the Pioneers in 2010 and scored one goal in 14 games for the PDL side. In 2011, he moved on to USL Pro side FC New York, where he played in five games.
“Steve Covino is a great signing for the Azul. He had a great college career up at Siena, and he also has experience in this league with Western Mass,” Azul head coach David Kelly said in a statement. “He’s quick, athletic, can dictate play, and he can score goals from midfield. I am looking forward to a great summer with Steve.”
The Siena College graduate scored 10 goals and added 10 assists during his 71 games with the Saints. In his senior year, he scored a scored eight goals and collected four assists and was named to the 2010 NSCAA/ Performance Subaru All-North Atlantic Region Team.
The Azul kick off the 2012 regular season on May 5 against Boston Victory at Yale University Reese Stadium in New Haven, Conn. Game time is set for 7:30pm.
