Mutiny Fall Hard to Fury
- Updated: May 13, 2012
It was a rude welcome to WPSL Elite for the Mutiny, as Merrit Mathias’ hat trick led the New York Fury to a 5-1 rout of the hosts at East Longmeadow High School on Saturday.
Mathias (5′, 24′, 42′) Jasmyne Spencer (14′) Megan Lenczyk (74′) found the back of the net for the Empire State-based side. Meanwhile, the Mutiny’s Tiya Gallegos ripped the shutout away from the guests with a goal in the 75th minute.
A disastrous first half for the hosts gave way to a composed second frame. With Mathias’ hat trick and Spencer’s goal in the rear view, the Mutiny kept the Fury attack at bay until the 74th minute, when Lenczyk made it 5-0.
But Gallegos salvaged a smidge of success a minute later. Off a Kate Howarth shot on frame, the Mutiny midfielder picked up the rebound and sent it through to give the home crowd something to cheer about before the credits rolled.
The Mutiny return to action on Saturday when they host the ASA Chesapeake Charge at East Longmeadow High School.
