Kyah Simon scored a second half goal to lead the Breakers to a 1-0 exhibition win over the D.C. United Women on Saturday in Boyd, Md.
The Australian striker broke a scoreless tie when she grabbed a Jessica Luscinski pass and put it through in the 56th minute. Alice Binns made a pair of sensational saves en route to her second straight clean sheet.
“I promised her one for Mother’s Day,” Simon said of her goal. “It was her request. She said, ’don’t make a promise you can’t keep.’”
Boston’s attack put nine shots on DC keeper Didi Haracic, who saved all but Simon’s to keep the match close. Holly King forced two shots on frame for the hosts, but it wasn’t enough against Binn.
The Breakers open their home slate on Friday when they host the FC Indiana at Dilboy Stadium.
