Olimpia Replaces Cruzeiro in Foxboro Friendly

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – With Cruzeiro dropping out of the August 4 doubleheader at Gillette Stadium, Honduras club C.D. Olimpia has been tabbed as the replacements to face Italian giants A.C. Milan. The friendly match will kick off at 4:30 p.m., followed by the regular season MLS match of the New England Revolution vs. Sporting Kansas City at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are slated to go on sale at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 11, starting at $35 for individuals. Prior to Brazilian powers Cruzeiro canceling their participation due to a scheduling conflict, tickets were set to start at $45 for individuals – $10 higher than the new price now that Olimpia replaced Cruzeiro – and go on sale on June 29.

AC Milan has visited Foxboro twice before, falling to Inter MIlan 2-0 on Jul. 26, 2009, in front of 42,531. Previously, Milan lost 1-0 to Chelsea on Jul. 24, 2005, in front of 26,208. Milan’s star-studded includes Italian stars Massimo Ambrosini and Antonio Cassano, Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, French center back Philippe Mexès, and Brazil’s Alexandre Pato, Robinho and Thiago Silva.

Olimpia will be visiting Foxboro for the first time. The Honduran club has won 25 Liga Nacional de Fútbol de Honduras titles, including both the 2011-12 Apertura and Clausura titles. Olimpia have been regulars in the CONCACAF Champions League, but have never advanced past the Quarterfinals.

The most recent Honduran National Team squad featured five current players on Olimpia and three Olimpia players are set to be a part of Honduras’ Olympic team in London.
