The MLS Disciplinary Committee has suspended New England Revolution midfielder Kelyn Rowe for one match and fined the rookie an undisclosed amount for a challenge on New York Red Bulls goalkeeper Ryan Meara in the Revs 2-0 victory on Sunday, July 8. Rowe will miss the Revs game on Saturday, July 14, against Toronto FC.

In what seemed to be incidental contact, Rowe’s leg collided with Meara’s head, while chasing down a through pass from Shalrie Joseph in the 87th minute. Both players were shaken up on the play and Rowe was substituted out of the match soon after.

Referee Drew Fischer issued no card on the play and didn’t seem to whistle for a foul, only stopping play when both players remained down. The MLS Disciplinary Committee, however, saw things differently, calling it a “a reckless challenge that endangered the safety of his opponent (Meara).”
