A seventh minute strike from Revolution striker Jerry Bengtson eliminated heavy favorite Spain in Sunday’s 1-0 win Honduras at St. James Park.

Bengtson’s game-winner came off a sequence in which Roger Espinoza sent it near the edge of the box to Andy Najar, who then played it back to Espinoza along the left flank. Espinoza quickly picked his head up and crossed it into box, where Bengtson headed it through to score the lone goal of the game.

The win gives Honduras four points in its first two games and sole possession of second place in Group D. Bengtson and Honduras return to action on Aug. 1 against Japan at 12:00pm ET.

How much you wanna bet Jerry comes back and is a dud? I’m hoping not but with our luck…

Great, so we desperately need finishing, and our finisher is bringing the pain at the Olympics – meaning he isn’t going to come home at any point soon.

I agree with Chris B. Remember when Dempsey came back from the World Cup and he just kind of waddled around the field (even more so than he usually did) with zero interest in his MLS career? Let’s hope Jerry doesn’t get upity and decide he wants to go on to bigger better things!
