The seventh ranked Boston College women’s soccer team earned a 1-1 draw after overtime at defending National Champions Stanford on Friday night. Preseason favorites and currently fourth ranked Stanford (2-1-1) had won 51 straight matches at home prior to the draw.
BC (3-0-1), who remained undefeated with the draw, fell behind early when Natalie Griffen chipped a shot over goalkeeper Alexa Gaul in the 11th minute.
The Eagles would respond in the 56th minute through Stephanie McCaffrey, who finished off a pass from Kristen Mewis for her third goal of the season.
The Eagles outshot the Cardinal 17-12. Gaul made five saves in the draw, while Stanford’s Aly Gleason made four saves.
Stanford eliminated BC in the Sweet 16 round of the 2011 NCAA Tournament on their way to the title.
Boston College returns to action on Sunday at Pacific.
