Mansally Starts in RSL Semifinal Loss

Kenny Mansally, who was waived by the Revolution earlier this season, started at left back for Real Salt Lake in Thursday’s 1-0 Western Conference Semifinal loss to Seattle at Rio Tinto Stadium.

Mansally got the start in place of defender Chris Wingert, who injured his right quad during pre-game warm-ups.

In the 19th minute, Mansally created an early Salt Lake chance when he pushed ahead and sent a cross from the left to Paulo Jr. at the near post. But the Salt Lake striker couldn’t hit his shot on frame.

The Gambian international went 86 minutes before he was substituted for striker Jonny Steele, a move made to bolster the attack with the hosts down a goal late.

The loss ended Salt Lake’s postseason run as Seattle advanced to the Conference Final 1-0 on aggregate.

Seattle will play defending champion Los Angeles in the first leg on Sunday at The Home Depot Center.

The 23-year-old defender featured in five league games with Salt Lake in 2012, starting four of them. He fired four shots on the season, and earned his lone caution of the season in 5-0 loss at San Jose on Jul. 14.

Mansally played in 89 games for the Revolution from 2007-2011 as a midfielder/forward. He scored seven goals and collected five assists. He was named MLS Player of the Week for Week 2 of the 2010 season for his two-goal performance off the bench in a 2-0 Revolution win at D.C. on Apr. 3, 2010.
