MLS Combine: Bekker Strikes Again, Chivas USA Eyes Alvarez at #2

Boston College’s Kyle Bekker scored for the second straight game in MLS Combine action on Tuesday.

After his adiZero squad fell into a two-goal hole to PRIME, Bekker drilled a 25-yard free kick that found the back of the net at the 43rd minute. adiZero earned a 2-2 draw in the end.

The second match of the day, and final match of the Combine, pitted adiPure against adiPower, with the former earning three points in a 2-1 win.

In related news, new Chivas USA manager Jose Luis Sanchez Sola told mlssoccer.com on Monday that he’ll select Connecticut forward Carlos Alvarez with the second overall pick at SuperDraft.

“I’m very happy, because he wants me,” Alvarez told mlssoccer.com after hearing the news. “Like I told you before, I would wear that jersey with pleasure, so if Chelís needs me I’m at his orders, and if any other team selects me I’m also at theirs. But I’m very happy with everything he said about me.”

Should the Goats follow through and select Alvarez, it would be a bona fide homecoming for the UConn star, who grew up in Los Angeles. Not only that, but Alvarez’s father played for the Chivas Guadalajara.

“My teammates have told me ‘You’re a Chiva now,’ and I tell them that’s the word out there but I still have to wait until Thursday,” Alvarez said. “You never know what might happen.”
