Breakers Add 2 Veterans
- Updated: February 6, 2013
The Boston Breakers continued to build their roster this week with the signings of forward Lianne Sanderson and defender Kia McNeill.
Sanderson, whose resume includes stops at Arsenal, Chelsea and Espanyol, has eight goals in 29 appearances with the England national team. She also played in the 2007 World Cup where she helped lead England to the semi-finals.
“She’s an experienced veteran, she’s versatile, and attack-minded player. She’ll score goals for us,” Breakers Head Coach Lisa Cole said in a statement. “She also has great leadership and charisma on and off the field. I’m excited we got her.”
McNeill, who played collegiately at Boston College and currently serves as an assistant coach, kicked off her professional career with St. Louis Athletica in 2009, before moving on to Atlanta (2010) and Philadelphia (2011).
“I’ve called Boston my second home since 2004 when I came here as a college player, then returned as an assistant coach and as a grad student,” McNeil said in a statement. “I’m looking forward to working with Lisa Cole and being a part of a team with all the support in place to win a championship.”
