Revs to Scrimmage Philly, FL Strikers This Week

The New England Revolution will play conference rival Philadelphia Union as well as the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers (NASL) in a pair of preseason friendlies this week.

The Revolution and Union will face off at 3pm on Tuesday at Dewey O. Boster Sports Complex in Deltona, Fla. Two days later, the Revolution will play the Strikers at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. Kickoff is set for 3pm.

Last week, the Revolution claimed a 1-1 draw against Swedish champion Malmo FF at IMG Academy. Kelyn Rowe scored New England’s goal, while Revolution coach Jay Heaps gave minutes to 21 different players.

The team returns to Foxborough on Friday, and will continue preseason training in the area for a week. On Feb. 15, the club will depart for Tucson, Ariz. for the FC Tucson Desert Diamond Cup preseason tournament. The Revolution will play four games against MLS competition between Feb. 19-Mar. 1.

Preseason roster changes

Trialist Juan Perotti, who saw action in the second half of the preseason opener against Malmo, is no longer in camp with the Revolution. Perotti played 45 minutes, and created a couple of dangerous chances in an otherwise unremarkable second half for the local XI. According to revolutionsoccer.net’s Jeff Lemiuex, the Argentinean trialist wasn’t expected to be with the club for the duration of its stay at IMG.

While Perotti may be gone, the Revolution added 2013 supplemental pick Jossimer Sanchez to their preseason roster as a trialist. The former UConn defender trained with the club last year, but was not signed.
