After putting together a 9-1-2 record during the Fall 2013 portion of the Connecticut Soccer League schedule, first-place Gremio Lusitano will kick off its Spring 2014 schedule in Newtown, Conn. on Apr. 27 against Newtown Pride FC at Newtown High School. Kickoff is set for 3:00pm.
The Ludlow (Mass.)-based XI, which re-entered the league last autumn following a 16-year hiatus, collected 29 points during the first half of the CSL season. They sit three points above second place HNK CT Croatia, which has an 8-1-2 record.
“We are happy with the initial success of the Gremio in the Connecticut league after not having been in the league since 1997,” said head coach Jorge Ferreira in a team release on Monday.
Western Mass Pioneers defender Jay Willis and midfielder Sam DeMello are among the players Ferreira should have it his disposal for the spring portion of the schedule.
Gremio will resume its home schedule at 3:00pm on May 4 when they host Glastonbury Celtic at Lustiano Stadium.
