Reeves Notches Hat Trick to End Breakers’ Skid
- Updated: May 29, 2014
Jazmine Reeves collected a hat trick to help the Boston Breakers stake a 4-1 win over the Portland Thorns on Wednesday at Harvard Stadium.
Reeves tallied in the 25th, 45th and 59th minutes and assisted on a 2nd minute goal from Nkem Ezurike. Christine Sinclair grabbed the lone goal for the Thorns.
The win ended the Breakers recent losing skid at four games, while the Thorns dropped their second straight, and their first road contest since last August.
After scoring only twice in their last four, the Breakers wasted no time announcing their intentions inside of two minutes when Reeves crossed it for Ezurike, who tapped it through to give the hosts a lead they would not relinquish.
Reeves grabbed the first of her three goals following a shot from Courtney Jones that Nadine Angererafter initially stopped before the Breakers forward pushed through the rebound in the 25th minute.
With her side holding a firm 2-0 lead as the interval approached, Reeves made it a three-goal gap when she grabbed a ball from Jones inside the 18, and punched it under the bar.
Right before the hour, Reeves grabbed the trifecta when she brought down a pass from Maddy Evans and beat Angererafter to send the Breakers well on their way to victory.
The only moment of misfortune for the hosts came when Sinclair drilled a shot that beat Alyssa Naeher to prevent the Breakers from collecting a clean sheet.
Boston returns to action on Sunday at Harvard Stadium when they host the Washington Spirit at 6:30pm.
