Western Mass Pro Soccer (0-0-2, 2 points) came up with a valuable road point in a 0-0 draw to Ironbound Soul (0-0-1, 1 point) on Sunday at Williams Field in Elizabeth, N.J.

Western Mass midfielder Will Daniels made a bid for the opener in the 15th minute, while keeper Warren Gross made a pair of critical saves late to preserve the point. Daniels also made a shout for a penalty after he was cut down on a breakaway just after the break, but his cry fell on deaf ears.

Sunday’s match was the first of the season for Ironbound, while the Lusitanos entered the match on heels of a season-opening 1-1 draw against fellow Commonwealth squad Mass United FC at Lusitano Stadium.

The Lusitanos return to action on Saturday to face the Rhode Island Oceaneers at Cranston Stadium in their season-opener. Kickoff is set for 7:30pm.
