SKC & NY Losses Give Revs 2nd Seed

The New England Revolution are assured of the second playoff seed in the Eastern Conference after Sporting Kansas City and New York Red Bulls both suffered losses over the weekend. The second seed ensures the Revolution will host the second leg of the conference semifinals.

The Revolution, who hold the tie-breaker against Sporting and Columbus, can finish with no fewer than 52 points. Sporting and Columbus cannot finish with more than 52 points.

D.C.’s win over Chicago put them at 58 points, six points ahead of the Revolution with one game remaining in the regular season.

The Revolution will find out their opponent for the conference semifinals next weekend. Sporting K.C., New York and Columbus are all in contention for the third seed. Sporting K.C. and New York will face off on Saturday, while Columbus will meet Philadelphia on Sunday.

The first leg of the conference semifinals will take place the weekend of November 1-2. The second leg of the conference semifinals during the weekend of November 8-9.

The second place finish is the Revolution’s highest since 2007, a year in which they reached the MLS Cup final.
