ASL: O’s, Riders Both Fall

The Rhode Island Oceaneers came up short in a 2-1 loss to Icon FC on Saturday at Fairleigh Dickinson University Field in Teaneck, N.J.

Kessy Alves scored for the Ocean State side in the 56th minute, but it wasn’t enough to overtake the lead built by Joey Tavernese and Jerry Saintil, who scored in the 40th and 51st minutes, respectively.

The Oceaneers fell to 1-3-2 (5 points) while Icon upped its mark to 5-1-2 (17 points).

The O’s return to action on Saturday when they head back to the Garden State to face Ironbound Soul at Williams Field in Elizabeth, N.J.

Mass United continues its search for win number one of the ASL season after falling 3-1 to Ironbound Soul on Saturday at Bertram Field in Salem, Mass.

A scoreless first half gave way to a second stanza in which Soul striker Christiano Francois scored twice with goals in the 50th and 57th minutes. Lassana Sanha converted from the spot in the 68th minute after Renivaldo DaSilva was fouled in the box, but guests reclaimed the two-goal cushion when Alfred Santhonax replied in the 84th minute.

The Riders’ loss puts them at 0-3-4 (4 points), while Ironbound improved to 3-1-2 (11 points).

Mass United gets its next crack at the win column on Saturday when travel to New Jersey to face the Philadelphia Fury.
