ASL: O’s, Riders Settle for Draw

A late Denivaldo Da Silva goal spoiled the Rhode Island Oceaneers’ attempts at a victory in Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with Mass United FC at Forekicks in Taunton, Mass.

Da Silva scored amid a mass of players in front of frame in the 81st minute, and canceled out a 66th minute strike from Nana Addai. Backup Oceaneers keeper Brian Ocampo started in place of Chris Moura, and went on thwart a number of aerial opportunities created by Mass United.

The draw put the O’s mark at 2-3-4 (10 points), while the Riders finished the season with a record of 0-3-7 (7 points).

A scoreless first half that saw the Riders edge their adverseries 5-4 in the shot column, the Oceaneers began to exert their influence as the hour mark approached. The breakthrough came when Dre Perdomo brought down a long ball from Brayan Rouvira, then crossed it for Addai on the opposite post, where the winger pushed it through to seize the opener.

But the Riders fought back 15 minutes later. Da Silva took advantage of a disheveled Rhode Island backline and pounced on a deflected ball near the net to level the affair in the waning stages.

Rhode Island will wrap up its fall season against New Jersey-based Ironbound Soul at date and time to determined after its originally-scheduled finale, which was set for Friday, was postponed.
