Report: Revs to Scout Sporting CP’s Héldon

In what could be the first sign that the Revolution are ready to explore the benefits of their partnership with Sporting Lisbon, a report surfaced on Friday that the coaching staff will look at Cape Verdean International Héldon Ramos during the preseason.

Heldon, 26, is an attacking midfielder who’s often slotted on the left side of the midfield. He spearheaded the Cape Verde National Team’s  memorable qualifying campaign for the 2012 African Nations Cup, which saw the Blue Sharks make the tournament for the first time.

Heldon has shined in international competition. He’s scored 11 goals in 32 matches for Cape Verde, who are currently 40th on the current FIFA rankings, and were rated as high as 27th less than a year ago. Heldon is currently in camp with Cape Verde as they prepare for their Africa Cup of Nations campaign, which kicks off on Sunday against Tunisia.

But at the club level, the story has been different for the talented winger in recent months. He’s struggled to get minutes in Portuguese Liga competition (two games, 63 minutes during the 2014/15 season), and appears anxious to get an opportunity for more playing time. has pegged Héldon’s value at 3.3 million Euros as of Jul. 2014, though that number is likely artificially inflated. Even so, a loan could defray the cost incurred by the Revolution should they elect to add him to their roster.

The Revolution and Sporting CP officially forged their partnership last October after initial discussions were sparked when Portugal’s National Team visited Foxborough for a Jun. 6 friendly against Mexico.
