Another undrafted college senior will get the chance to earn a spot on the New England Revolution roster as University of North Carolina Wilmington defender Jacob VanCompernolle has been invited to join the club for preseason camp, according to a release from UNCW. The 5-foot-11 Dallas, Texas native was a starter all four years at UNCW.
VanCompernolle, a center back, started all 20 games for UNCW as a senior, recording two goals and four assist and helped lead his school to the second round of the NCAA tournament, where they lost to eventual champions University of Virginia. VanCompernolle earned All-Colonial Athletic Association honors for his play in each of his final two seasons at UNCW. He was also named the CAA defensive player of the year as a senior as the team lead the league with just 0.90 goals allowed per game and just 3.25 shots on goal allowed per game.
Overall, VanCompernolle played in 74 games (72 starts) for UNCW in his college career, recording eight goals and nine assists. He finished the season ranked 73rd in the nation among all college players according to TopDrawerSoccer’s rankings.
The Revolution open preseason camp on Friday.
