Heldon Goes 90 for CV; Future Still Uncertain
- Updated: January 26, 2015
Two days after being linked to his former club, Maritimo, reported Revolution target Heldon went the full 90 on Monday for Cape Verde, who were eliminated from the African Cup of Nations after drawing 0-0 to Zambia.
The Sporting CP winger started up top for the Blue Sharks, but was unable to spur the rest of the offense for the second straight match. He made a bid for the game-winner in stoppage time only to watch his show fly wide of the woodwork.
With Cape Verde out of the tournament, the 26-year-old midfielder will return to Sporting CP, but with a decision to make.
On Saturday, the Lisbon-based side confirmed that they had received a loan offer from an undisclosed club – presumably the Revolution. However, under the terms of the January 2014 transfer agreement that sent Heldon from Maritimo to Sporting CP, the latter had to offer the winger’s services to former first.
Maritimo subsequently confirmed their interest, and thus, a loan is in place for Heldon to return to his former club. But the loan to Maritimo, who currently sit in 11th place on the Portuguese Liga table, is subject to Heldon’s consent, which as of Monday, had not yet been given.
Heldon has only played a total of 19 minutes for the Leões this season. They are set to play Vitória Setúbal on Wednesday.
