On Sunday, Sporting beat Arouca 3-1. This result brings SCP record to 12-1-6 (win loss tie), 42 points, and third in the standings. They maintain their lead for 3rd (playoff round for Champions League) over Guimaraes by six points.

Last week, as Sporting was winning their league match, both Benfica and Porto suffered rare losses, allowing SCP to cut down the deficit for the top 2 spots. Current standings is Benfica in first at 49 points, Porto second at 43 points, SCP third at 42 points.

SCP will have their chance to cut Benfica’s lead as they face off this Sunday for the Lisbon Derby. Former Seattle Sounder striker Freddy Montero, who scored in the 31st minute against Arouca, and Islam Slimani are both tied for leading scorer, each with seven goals.

Days before Sporting dispatched Arouca, the club loaned out rumored Revs target Heldon to La Liga side Cordoba for the remainder of the 2014-15 season. Upon arriving at his new club, Heldon told the press that it was “a huge sensation to be in the best league in the world.” According to reports, Cordoba first expressed interest in the Cape Verdean international in early-January.

The B team is currently 12th in the second division out of 24.Their  current record is 10-9-6 (win loss tie). They beat Santa Clara 1-0 over the weekend, and take on Olhanense this Saturday. Leading scorer is 24-year-old French striker Hadi Sacko, who’s scored six goals in 16 games.
