Revolution midfielder Jermaine Jones will be forced to miss a portion of the club’s preseason camp after he revealed via social media on Monday that he’ll need surgery, reportedly for a sports hernia. He is expected to undergo the surgery on Tuesday in Los Angeles.
Jones, who did not disclose the nature of his injury in a video post on Instagram, went the entire 90 in Sunday’s 2-0 win over Panama, but did not appear to injure himself during the proceedings.
However, New York Times soccer writer Brian Sciaretta advised via Twitter on Monday that he was told the injury is a sports hernia. According to sportsmd.com, the typical recovery time for sports hernia surgery is six weeks.
