Fagundez Scores in Draw to Rapids

Diego Fagundez scored his first goal of the preseason in the Revolution’s 1-1 draw to the Colorado Rapids in the second round of Desert Diamond Cup action on Saturday at Kino North Complex in Tucson, Ariz.
Fagundez struck in the 54th minute, not long after Gabriel Torres put the Rapids on top in the 48th minute. Fagundez nearly steered the Revolution to a last-gasp win in stoppage time when he played a ball into the box for Steve Neumann, but the second-year pro was denied by Clint Irwin.
The draw put the Revolution’s preseason record at 1-2-1, while the Rapids mark this winter went to 0-0-2.
Following a scoreless first half that saw a few bouts of miscommunication between the Revolution defenders and midfielders, the Rapids finally capitalized shortly after the break. Former Real Boston Ram Dominique Badji sent a header forward to Torres, who eluded Jose Goncalves and buried it TO break open the match.
But the Revolution responded six minutes later. Fagundez grabbed a Rapids turnover in their defending third, then raced through and calmly pushed it past Irwin for the equalizer.
The Revolution will return to action on Wednesday when they face Seattle Sounders, whom they’ll face on First Kick in Seattle on Mar. 8.
