Revs sign Argentiniean defender Coria

The New England Revolution have reached a loan agreement with Chacarita Juniors (Argentina) to sign defender Franco Coria to New England’s roster. Terms of the loan have not been confirmed, although it is believed that it may include language that will allow the Revolution to purchase Coria’s contract.

Coria is a 22-year-old homegrown product of the Chacarita youth system. The Buenos Aires native joined the senior roster last year and played in eight matches. This season, he’s been limited to one appearance so far, coming on as a substitute against A. Rafaela on October 10, 2010.

The arrival of the Argentiniean is subject to the approval of a P1 work visa, which are often issued within a week or two of a player’s application.

He is projected to compete with Revolution first-round pick A.J. Soares for a backup role in the central defense, with veterans Darrius Barnes and Ryan Cochrane as the team’s projected starters.
