NEW YORK – Good afternoon from Yankee Stadium, where the Revolution will meet expansion side New York City FC. Kickoff is set for 5:00pm. The match will be broadcast nationally on ESPN2.
What’s at stake: For the Revolution, nothing more than getting that first win of the regular season after last. Last year, they didn’t get win no. 1 until the fourth game of the year. For New York City, they get the chance to secure their first win in club history in front of the home fans.
Biggest question for the Revs: Will Lee Nguyen play? Last year’s MVP candidate was removed from the injury list last week, and could make his first appearance of the season if all systems are go.
Weather: It’s a brisk 43 degrees here in the Bronx, with overcast conditions. The Revolution were 1-1-0 during across all competitions last year when the game time temperature fell between 30-49 degrees.
Gameday handout: A glossy NYC FC-issued program with the image of none other than David Villa on the cover.
Geiger takes refereeing reins: Mark Geiger, who refereed at last year’s World Cup, will serve as the man in the middle on Sunday. The last Revolution game he officiated was the 2014 MLS Cup final. Joining Geiger for the first MLS match at Yankee Stadium is Greg Barkey (AR1) and Matthew Nelson (AR2), along with fourth official Jorge Gonzalez.
